PTSA
The purpose of the Islander Middle School PTSA is to serve the needs of our members in promoting the health, welfare, safety and education of our IMS students. We accomplish this through five main goals:
Provide enrichment programs for IMS students: IMS PTSA provides funding of programs and activities such as field trips (Seattle Art Museum, EMP, Klondike, MOHAI), assemblies (Anti-bullying, Veterans Day), the WEB program, and learning support. The PTSA also produces events such as Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, Fine Arts Showcase and PTA Reflections Art/Music/Writing Contest.
Build community and integrate all families into IMS: By working with the Islander Middle School staff, the PTSA works to integrate families through events such as 6th Grade Welcome Event and Pizza Feed, Back 2 School Day, New Families Welcome and mentoring events, end of year Carnival and 8th Grade celebration events. In addition, the PTSA creates many volunteer opportunities for parents to be involved in our IMS community.
Provide support for IMS teachers, staff and curriculum: IMS PTSA provides funding for teacher grants (books for classrooms, educational games), media tech, library resources via Gator Book donations and IMS community enhancements via the IMS PTSA Supplemental Grants program. In addition, we recognize our IMS teachers and staff through monthly appreciation luncheons and awards such as Golden Gator and Outstanding Educator.
To serve our members and all IMS families: IMS PTSA provides communication to all families through email, e-newsletters and website on school events, activities and volunteer opportunities. PTSA membership and contributions fund the online IMS PTSA Directory, parent education events via ParentEdge and the operating budget to support all of the many programs, activities and events listed above.
Advocate for our children: IMS PTSA works to advocate for our children and their educational opportunities locally through the MI PTA Advocacy team, at the State level through Washington State PTA and at the Federal level through National PTA.
