15 IMS Students Recognized By Washington Music Educators Association
Mercer Island, WA, March 9, 2023 - Every year, the Washington Music Educators Association selects and presents an All-State Band, Orchestra and Choir that perform in conjunction with the Washington State Music Educators Convention.
This year, Islander Middle School had 15 band, orchestra, and choir students selected for this distinction! These students prepared their music ahead of time, rehearsed and performed with the group on February 19 at the All-State Concert.
The IMS students band students are: Max Janes (Trumpet), Hana Sargent (Flute), Hadrian Finch (Flute), Jens Ayoma (Flute), Finn Bunker (Bass Trombone), Henry Barnes (French Horn), and William Liu (Percussion).
The IMS orchestra students are Brian Kwon (violin) and Evangeline Zhang (cello).
The IMS choir students are: Aanya Kumar, Francesco Monti, Daphne Piteira - Junior All-State Youth Choir (all 6th graders), Alex Wirkkala and Brody Newcomer - Junior All-State Mixed Choir (both 8th grade baritones), and Megan Opati - Junior All-State Treble Choir (not pictured).

The Islander Middle School Mathcounts team of Kyle Liao, Charlotte Westover, Raahi Dalal, and Jayden Sun tied with Lakeside for first place at the Mathcounts Seattle Chapter Competition Saturday in Seattle.
